Jammin’ in the Kitchen
Always wanted to learn how to can your own vegetables or create your own succulent jams and jellies? Now you and your best girlfriends can learn together thanks to special canning classes offered by the Jam and Jelly Lady in historic Lebanon. This boutique cannery features a 10,000 square foot kitchen full of empty Mason jars eagerly awaiting you to take them home full of sweet strawberries, sinful blackberries or whatever delightful concoction you happen to craft! Class size is limited to 12 to allow hands-on training. For $65 you will receive two 3-hour sessions plus all your materials. Hooked-Rug classes at the Warren County History Center
The Warren County History Center in historic downtown Lebanon proudly presents The Heart of Hooker: A Celebration of American Traditional Hooked Rugs through November 16. Rug hooking is one of the few forms of needlework that is thought to have originated in North America and now you can learn this traditional craft through on-site demonstrations and interactive classes. For $50, you can receive hands-on instruction, plus an introductory kit during special rug-hooking classes held on 10/25, 11/8 and 11/16! The aroma of baked apples, roasted turkey legs, and German sauerkraut mark the beginning of Warren County’s unique fall festivals.
Ohio Sauerkraut Festival
October 11-12
Every fall, Waynesville becomes the center of German-inspired cuisine in the Midwest during the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. Scores of people flock to this charming community to taste the finest Ruebens, Kraut Dogs and Cabbage Rolls. With more than 30 food vendors, there is certain to be a dish perfect for everyone in your group. Those with daring palates will enjoy crazy sauerkraut creations such as pizza, donuts, fudge and sundaes. With your favorite sauerkraut dish in hand, stroll the festival streets browsing a wide selection of arts and crafts. The more than 450 artisans from across the U.S. and Hawaii, make this is one of the largest arts and crafts shows in the country.
Ohio Renaissance Festival
Weekends through October 19
Ranked as one of top five renaissance festivals in the country, the Ohio Renaissance Festival promises an exciting day full of living history. Listen to singing minstrels while valiant knights battle in medieval jousts all under the watchful eye of Queen Elizabeth I. Grab a front row seat, if you dare, at The Mudde Show and see a trio of gifted performers re-enact literary classics using mud as their stage and as their props. Don’t forget about the 130 master artisans and craftsmen selling their handmade crafts representative of the Renaissance time period.
Lebanon Antique Horse-Drawn Carriage Parade
December 6
Historic buildings and candle-lit streets provide the perfect backdrop for the Lebanon Antique Horse-Drawn Carriage Parade—one of the Midwest’s most popular holiday traditions. Stand nose-to-nose with a Clydesdale and see Santa on his sleigh as you line Lebanon’s charming streets, candles in hand, anxiously awaiting the first of 100 antique horse-drawn carriages to pass by. The same weekend, you can also stop by Waynesville’s Christmas in the Village which is another traditional holiday celebration with carolers and decorated storefronts. Oh yeah…you can cross a lot off your holiday shopping list too!
